eSata or USB drive?
Windows or Mac?
If Windows, there is a way to LOCK the drive letter for a USB drive
Search http://search.microsoft.com/search.aspx?mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US for help
If on a PC, you can change the drive letter for your external to what it was, when you Imported the Assets. I strongly suggest that one do this in the OS of any computer, where that external will be used.
Thanks, can you guide me to OS for doing this
Are you on a Mac, or a PC?
If PC, what OS version do you have?
The easiest way to find out exactly how your version of Windows sets drive letters is to go to Help, then type in "drive letter," without the quotation marks in the query box. You will then get all references to drive letter, and choose Setting Drive Letter, or similar syntax. That will step you through the process, and probably even provide a link to the disc management utility for your version.
If you are on a Mac, then it would be Volume Name, but I cannot help with anything more than that, being a PC-only guy.
Thankyou, it seems what has been happening is my drives have renamed themselves and therefore the muddle- not sure if savable as I cant remember original drive name ☹

It doesn't matter what the names were... just what they are now.
Once you have everything re-named correctly and have all files linked,
save the project and the problem should disappear.
OK thanks, just for finding all my 100’s of files, I seem to have to do I at a time, even within the same folder of files-and as I have been slack and my files are just with their original numbers there are many 1 avi’s for instance-I have just managed to link a few up so will keep trying but its pretty painful!!

To relink all media at once:
With the root of Project Panel active, select all (Ctrl + A).
Right-click a missing media file and select "Link Media...".
