I am trying to export graphics to be used as icons for a desktop application. I want my icons to look the way they do in the Finder and Mail OS is Mountain Lion. Apple has specific guidelines to follow; black outlines, export as PDF, use transparency selectively. My icons are vectors, drawn in Fireworks.
I've done the following; Placed the graphic in Photoshop (RBG file) on a transparent layer, added a transparent alpha channel, export as PDF with alpha channels checked off in save dialog. This does not produce the effects that I want. My icon highlights when clicked (it becomes darker), but it doesn’t show disabled and it doesn’t show blue. I am working w a developer since I am not one myself; we are pretty sure there is something about the output that is causing this feature not to work properly.
Thanks very much,
We figured out the solution. It had nothing to do with the way the file was exported and some obscure feature. Instead it was Apple's poor documention. They put in every detail about what the icon should look like but left out the most important aspect.
