is this button a child of another button or MC that has an on handler?
If so then the parent's handler will interfere and only the upper level partent's handler will receive event notifications.
I'm not sure if its a child because I've been re-teaching myself Flash while making this project so I haven't been very clean in making everything and can't trace my creation path very well. Is there any way to set a trace or something like that to see if its linked to something else?
Thanks for the suggestion anyway!
do you have to go 'into' anything to get to the button? or it's code?
pretty difficult to trace out, you could run the debugger, but that can be difficult to understand, without having a pretty solid knowledge base. should be able to do it visually.
I don't have to go into anything to access the button, it's simply there on the main page just like all my other buttons. I just tried converting all instances of it to a movie clip because it's not absolutely necessary for it to link to the home page, but now it's bouncing up and down on my flash movie preview for no reason. Should I just abandon it and turn it into a graphic?
Clearly I'm pretty lost here but doing the best I can. Thanks again!
1. there's no such url.
2. use a trace() function to see if that code is executing.
I would say no, it shouldn't make a difference MC or button, although buttons do have less functionality, and MCs are more flexible. Something must have just gotten moved a little to make it 'jump'.
Can you post your FLA file? make a zip, upload to your server, and then post a link here to the file address.
