    Alien Skin Live Effects

    DugAllNicknamesTaken
      Hi,

In my business I make heavy use of Alien Skin plug-ins. Problem is, live effects don't work anymore. The filters from the top pull-down menu works, but that's not a live effect.
Suddenly, making revisions to customer demands will be very hard. Alien Skin claims this is a bug in CS3, and they can't fix it. Is anyone aware of this, and is it being worked on?
This is really important to me, and I just have to imagine it's important to a whole host of other people too.

      Any information is appreciated.
      Thanks,
      Dugan M.

          Dugan,

My EyeCandy 4000 installation works as live effects. Which Alien Skin
product is not working for you?

Do you have the full version, or the stripped down version which used
to install in FW 8 and earlier?

I have the full version (EyeCandy 4000). It was the last edition before
they started breaking the filters up into 'Packs', I think. Here is a
              list of the filters.

              Antimatter
              Bevel Boss
              Chrome
              Corona
              Cutout
              Drip
              Fire
              Fur
              Glass
              Gradient Glow
              HSB Noise
              Jiggle 50
              Marble
              Melt
              Motion Trail
              Shadowlab
              Squint
              Star
              Swirl
              Water Drops
              Weave
              Wood

Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing, by 'Live' you
mean being able to add effects from the property inspector drop down and
it doesn't ask you to flatten (create bitmap) the file? The effects
              scale with the object?

Yep, so does mine in FRS CSV

Exactly, I don't want it to flatten the image. I want to be able to modify the effect later on after other modifications have occurred.

Here's a disclaimer at Alien Skin:
                  http://www.alienskin.com/ec5i/ec5i_requirements.html

You also see discussions of the problem in their forums. Apparently it sometimes causes a crash when trying to use the effect from the property inspector.

I just downloaded the Eye Candy 5: Impact trial and it seems to be
working. I only tried a couple of them. Is there one in particular you
                    are having trouble with?

See the link in my previous post. But also this adobe technote:
                      http://www.adobe.com/go/kb401012
Their answer seems to basically be, 'use photoshop instead'. I hope Adobe appreciates what they bought when they took over Macromedia. Live effects are a feature to die for. I hope they keep Fireworks around, but it think it will get turned into a photoshop add-in.
