Installing Flash Player 11

I started the download and then half way through the screen tells me I have to exit Internet Explorer for the install to continue. I closed Internet Explorer but it wouldnt really close as I was getting the download from the Adobe website which requires the Internet Explorer to be open. How is it possible to download this version of Flash Player without the Internet being open?????
