I am a new indesign cs6 user. I am sure there is a way to tag/mark a portion of text to create an index while I am creating a catalog. Can someone help with a link to a "how-to" video or an easy tutorial? Or if you have step by step instructions, that would be welcome too.
Lastly, is that index able to be exported to an excel spreadsheet?

It's just text - so you can copy and paste it to Excel should work fine.

When you are ready to create your index for Excel you will need to look at the separators between topic and page numbers. Its all in the create index dialog.
