I have read articles in the past on using black video to fill any gaps between clips in the timeline. Is this a nessecary proceedure? I have rendered plenty of videos without doing this, and had no problems. Premeire will simply render black frames wherever there is not a clip. Does anyone have any pointers on this?
I think the procedure, as I remember it, is to use "slug" to fill in for missing scenes. Usually the slug is labeled with the missing scene number and it's descriptioin from the script, eg., "MISSING SCENE 7, INT. FIRST ROOM IN CASTLE DRACULA -- DAWN". Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
You're call. I normally add them to the main sequence, but never add them to the "Deleted Scenes".
It depends on your specific workflow. There can be advantages to moving clips around when there are black videos keeping everything from inadvertently sliding around and getting out of whack.
But there is no reason to have black video that in any way makes a difference to the output.
