There are a number of possible causes of this error. It could some damaged files in the application (often resulting from an interupted installation process), damaged files in the OS, damaged settings files, modified system settings, etc.
If an uninstall and reinstall did not fix the issue, try running the software from a new user account to see if that helps to isolate the issue.
Did you install any device or remove any device after you installed the two products? If so then this error is because of that. However, you haven't said what is your operating system.
