What is a CODEC... a Primer http://forums.adobe.com/thread/546811
What CODEC is INSIDE that file? http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037
Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... A screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing
Welcome to the forum.
John T. has provided several useful links.
The first question is "what is inside those AVI files?"
In John T's first link, there are more links to programs, that will "peek inside," and give you that information.
My first guess (will be known, when you post the CODEC used), would be MJPEG. If that is the case, then I would look at this article: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4079377#4079377
If ought to be as easy as installing that MJPEG CODEC from your camera's utility disc. Note: it might be included with editing, or cataloging software, and even if you do not plan on using that software, letting it install the CODEC will be all that you need.
Good luck, and please let us know a bit more.
The files are indeed Motion JPEG Open DML, 1280 x 720; I opened them in Quicktime and used the Show Movie Inspector "tool" to find out. The camera doesn't have a utility disc. I know that's odd, but it doesn't come with one. It shoots 14 mp HD video and just uses a USB cord to transfer videos/photos. Since that option won't work, and the manufacturer doesn't seem to know what I'm talking about, do you know where I can safely go to download the codec? Your help is most appreciated.
OK, in the absence of a utility disc, with the mfgr's. version of the MJPEG CODEC, I would look into either the Morgan, or MainConcept versions. There are links in that article, that I linked to.
