I am preparing a book for publishing that has been done in InDesign 5.5
The book has over 200 images that are all tiff, cmyk, 300 dpi, and random sizes so that in InDesign they are 100o/o as a minimun. My problem is that the publishers are insiting I rescale all photos in Photoshop and crop out any thing that I have not included in the Indesign files. This will take me such a long time to do manually as everything then needs to be re inserted, the autoupdate links will not work since the size of the image has changed. Is there an easy way to do this? Tnx!!!
Assuming that you are exporting pdf, the images are resampled & cropped during the process.
Take a look at the Compression tab - the default is to downsample if the effective resolution is over 450. Change that to 300 as you see fit.
Crop Image Data to frame is also in that dialog, enabled by default.
Unfortunately it is the links in the package that need to be cropped not as a PDF. The publishers want both document and all links, but they want the links to be scaled and cropped exactly as they appear in the book. It seems to be a question of server capasity issues for them and not really something to do with the print job.
