    Raid setup

I will have an 8 port SATA raid card in my new PC build. I  intend to use raid 5, is there any advantage in having more than one raid array or should I just use all 8 discs in the one volume.

No advantage to more than 1 raid and you lose more volume space to parity. I would suggest 1 large raid 5 or Raid 6 which is ideal. It's extremely difficult to corrupt a raid 6 and the 2 drive failure is also solid protection. However always remember raid is not bullet proof. Always backup.

And to add to ECBowen excellent post...

If your RAID card support it I would suggest a RAID 5 with spare or RAID 6 with spare.
