Jim Wilde Jun 30, 2013 11:28 AM (in response to Heirloom Bob)You can rename to anything you like provided it doesn't contain any illegal characters. Just make sure that you rename the associated preview folders as well.

web-weaver Jun 30, 2013 11:35 AM (in response to Heirloom Bob)Yes, you can.
But the extension < .lrcat> can not be changed or else Lr will not open the catalog.
Also, in case you change the catalog name in Win Explorer / Mac Finder you will find that Lr does not find the newly-named catalog automatically.
There are two ways:
Either double-click the renamed catalog-file and Lr will open with it;
or in Lr go >File >Open Catalog, navigate to the renamed catalog, and select it, ie. click on it.

4. Re: Catalog
web-weaver Jun 30, 2013 12:05 PM (in response to Heirloom Bob)You can't do it from Lightroom - except as you say via "Export as Catalog".
Best way to do it in my opinion is renaming the catalog in Win Explorer / mac Finder and double-clicking the renamed file.
If you don't know where your catalog is, go >Edit >Catalog Settings >General tab. there you'll find the name and when you click on <Show> it takes you to a folder usually called <Lightroom>. Open this folder and you will see the catalog file (it's a file not a folder) with the extension < .lrcat>. That is your catalog-file.
Close Lr, rename the catalog file in Win Explorer / mac Finder and double-click it right after renaming it.
