Umm... "1080i 50p" does not exist. Is your video 50i or 50p? And what sequence settings are you using in Premiere?
With the problems you describe...can you reformat your MBP?
MY BAD but those numbers I meant are 1080/50p AVCHD.
Anyway problem solved: had to log into the root account and add my account as Read/Write to the System, Library, User, and Application folder and it solved the problem.

Technically, 50i doesn't exist, which means 50 interlaced frames per second. (Always frames.)
It's either 25i or 50p. And with the resolution thrown in, the i or p should come after that and before the frame rate, like this:
I do wish camera makers would start getting this right.
