    Dotted Square

    cws14
I wondered if this is a bug or if someone figured out how to do this. I can created a dotted line with 1 pixel on and 1 pixel off, but when I try to do the same thing to a square it never works, no matter what I try. It always turns out to be 1 pixel on and two off or visa versa.

Can anyone help me? I really have tried everything. The custom settings where you actually set the "beats" for the line doesn't work.

      Thanks.

Why not use the pre-built dotted stroke style? You can set shape and
edge softness and color. You will find it as a sub item within the
          Dashed Strokes.

            Hi Jim,

I've tried that, but it refuses to give me 1px off 1px on. I have tried all types of different settings, etc. It still doesn't work. If you can get it to work and actually measure the dots and spaces between the dots, please give me the exact step by step of what you did, because I can't figure it out.

            Thanks,

            Chloe

Sorry Chloe, I didn't dig that deep into it. I only mentioned it
because you hadn't indicated it had been tried.

OK Been playing with it a bit more.

                I drew a vector line
                Applied a 1 pixel stroke
                Set Edge to 0
Clicked on the Advanced button in the Stroke menu
Set the Spacing option to 200%
                Set Shape to square

I moved it up to the top of the canvas as close to the ruler as I could
get and it seems to be working but only with straight vector lines - no
                shapes or beziers.

Apply the Grid 3 texture to the stroke at 100%

Chloe one you thing you should make sure of is that your document magnification is set to 100%.

I was trying to replicate your situation, and in fact was seeing the exact same thing as you described. 1 on, 1 off was appearing like 1on 2 off. Literally gave up and moved on to something else, specifically type layers and realized I needed my document at 100% for onscreen clarity. Then it dawned on me, is this what was disrupting my strokes 'appearing' off. Sure enough recreated the dotted stroke as you describe, and as long as the document is at 100% view then it looks perfect.

                        hope it helps you

                          Hi,

Thank you all for your responses, I really appreciate them!

Jim, I didn't mean to be snippy, I was just frustrated and I had tried everything I could think of (I just didn't make it clear in my first message).

Linda, your trick worked perfectly, thank you so much!!

Heathrow, thanks for the help, but it wasn't just that the stroke was appearing to be off - it actually was off and I was comparing the stroke to a bitmapped image of a line with 1px on and 1px off so I knew it wasn't working correctly.

Thanks so much again to all of you!
