Can you provide more info about the source camera? The one I'm most familiar with is the Panasonic family of DVXPRO HD cameras, which write to a set of folders. The parent folder is named "CONTENT." It contains separate folders for video, audio, and other bits and pieces.
I know at least one of Premiere's output formats yields an MXF file that contains both the video and audio (i.e., multiplexed, or "muxed"), but I'm not sure whether any cameras write muxed clips.
That was pretty much it Mark. I received the full set of files from my client and it resovled the issue.
This was simply a case of my inexperience with working with .MXF files. The data on these cards stored the audio and video separately (not "muxed" as you pointed out). By keeping the files in the original folder hiearchy, I selected the .MXF files in the /Video folder – and during import they automatically associated themselves with their audio counterparts.
