    Exporting timeline in PE11

    RichardHazelwood1

I have spent many hours video editing a wedding video filmed on a Canon XM2. The time line has many transitions and clip breaks. I am new to this and was hoping to export it as an AV file to embed the transitions and allow further editing (eg reduction of screen size to whole movie to maintain image quality on large screen TV) with minimal quality loss - is there any way to do this as the share options seem to be for final export only and no specific 'export to AV' option.

      Many thanks

What are the properties of the Canon XM2 footage that you have on your Premiere Elements 11 Timeline? And, what is your Premiere Elements 11 project preset, selected by you or the program? (See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Rate)

Could you clarify/verify your workflow? Are you working on the workflow concept of working with a large project in smaller segments and then importing the segments into a new grand project for the final export or something else?

For now generalizations addressed to what you wrote

          In Premiere Elements 11

          Publish+Share

          Computer

          AVI

Is it that you are not seeing the AVI choice? If so, scroll down to it, using the scroll bar to the right of the Presets choices that start with Adobe Flash Video.

The presets under AVI should be

          DV NTSC Standard

          DV NTSC Widescreen

          and

          the PAL counterparts

          and

          Microsoft AVI

Export settings can be changed under the Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab of a particular preset.

Looking forward to your follow up.

          Thank you.

The best question is what media do you plan to use to deliver this finished video?

Are you planning on putting on DVD or BluRay? Post it online to a site like YouTube or Facebook? Port it to a portable device like an iPod or iPad?

There is no need to "export it as an AV file to embed the transitions and allow further editing ".  Transitions and clip breaks are part of the editing process. When they're done, you can just output your finished video.

How you plan to share and display your movie will determine the best and most optimal format for your output.

As per the question marked "in reply to A.T. Romano" post #2, I would point out that I agree with you that more information is needed to give the best reply, as evidenced by what I have already written.

Could you clarify/verify your workflow? Are you working on the workflow concept of working with a large project in smaller segments and then importing the segments into a new grand project for the final export or something else?

For now generalizations addressed to what you wrote......

If the user is indeed trying to achieve that workflow that you have always championed and written a classic FAQ on for large projects done in smaller segments, then the user's descriptions seem to fall into place if he is talking about integrating the segments into the grand project for export (whatever it is).
