Please show some screenshots and describe step by step
I uploaded a step by step at
mainly I create my work with some calligraphic brush in Illustrator CC.
Then when the artwork is finished I click to Make a Live Group.
I need to go to Live Paint > Gap Options > Gap Detection and Set "Small Gaps" as my Default.
Then I can start to add color to my Art Work using Make Live.
But if I add some new brushes / paths once I click to Merge Live Paint
all the previous colors dissapear (see Steps 6 in my PDF) and I need to undo it and go back
to Live Paint > Gap Options > Gap Detection and Set again "Small Gaps" as my Default since Illustrator CC, as I work, keeps to reset it to Custom Gaps.
No problems at all ever if I use Illustrator CS6.
Any tips? Any help?
I tried to reproduce this, but couldn't.
May have to do with something in your artwork, which is difficult to reproduce.
it's obviously a BUG
a big one
Let's hope it will be fixed!
Otherwise, as I mentioned, I will be forced to use Illustrator CS6
Please keep in touch
and thanks for looking at this

Forgive me for the missunderstanding!
I have the same problem... It is driving me nuts.
If I copy and paste a live paint from one document to another the issue occurs.
If I copy and past in the same document the gap detection breaks, adding any line, scaling or changing line weights causese the gap detection to revert to custom.
Very very annoying, did you find a fix?
I have tried making a new user profile, uninstalling etc etc and have just done a clean install (for other reasons) of my machine and the issue is still there.
the only solution I found myself is to revert to CS6
that is wrong but that is it!
My new employer does not have earlier versions of illustrator...
I am stuck.
I know really really wrong!
OPEN a new document in Illustrator CC
then, before you start a new work, goes to
Edit > Live Paint > Gap Options
Press RESET BUTTON , make sure Gap Detection is Checked, chose PAINTS STOP at SMALL GAPS, and then press SET DEFAULT
that should be the rule
(but it doesn't work with me!)
I found this when I setup the shortcut keys for gap options and did the combo with nothing selected.
I set default and hoped...
However, the issue still arose, maybe it is system specific? as there are not so many posts on the issue.
I am using a macbook pro 2010 with a crucial SSD and with a optibay additional hard drive.... is this similar to you?
I am running mavericks, but also had the issue with Mountian Lion.
yes possibly is somehow related to some memory issues!
This thread is strangely familiar to me. There are bugs in AICS6 that have never been resolved and never will be. I paid for CC for a year without being able to use Illustrator in my workflow. Adobe has acknowledge the bug and fixed it in CC, but CS6 has been left useless to me. If I did not have CS5 to fall back on I would be VERY out of luck. Needless to say, I am not enthusiastic about CC! I hope your experience will be better.
so it was a BUG, though ADOBE never acknowledged it,
and now with the latest Update for CC Illustrator (Creative Cloud realeased it tonight 18 Nov 2013)
it has been fixed!!!!!
unfortunatly I have spoken too early!
issue not (COMPLETLY) resolved!
same probs as before still there.
back to CS6?
that would be unbelieavable!!!!
let's spend bit more time with this!
