Every time I try to complete at datamerge in Adobe InDesign CS5, InDesign crashes and I get an error that says "InDesign quit unexpectedly." The source file is a .txt (using Excel for Mac 2011 Version 14.3.5). This is so frustrating and I just got a new computer. Hardware information is below:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac13,2
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 3.4 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 8 MB
Memory: 16 GB
Boot ROM Version: IM131.010A.B05
SMC Version (system): 2.11f16
I don't know if there is a solution for this but would really appreciate any feedback/suggestions.
Try deleting InDesign prefs / export file to idml and resave, it may clear some gremlins out. If not try creating a new "fresh" account on your mac and see if it works there.
There may be some clue in your crash report. Please post it on pastebin.com and put a link here.
Also, do NOT try to use the preview feature in Data Merge in CS5. If you've alread attempted to do a merge after clicking the preview button the tempalte may be damaged and and it would be worth making a new template file to see if that works without the preview.
