Acrobat XI rasterizing fonts and having frequent apphangs and appcrashes

I am having pdf generation problems with Acrobat XI when using Microsoft Excel and Word. Any help is appreciated.

In Excel, the Adobe PDFMaker add-in crashes Excel every time, whether the sheet is one that printed without issue in Acrobat X or is a new workbook and sheet with just one word in one cell. Printing to pdf via the print menu usually does not hang or crash the program, but frequently the fonts are rasterized, even though the settings are to:

      • embed all fonts.
      • subset embedded fonts when the percent of characters used is less than 100%.
      • always embed—there are no fonts listed in the Never Embed box.

Ironically, even though Excel crashes every time when using PDFMaker, a pdf is produced that does not have rasterized fonts.

The only font used is Arial (plain, italics, and bold). I have tested with the High Quality and Press settings as well as custom variants. All files tested save properly using Microsoft's Save as PDF feature.

In Word, the Adobe PDFMaker add-in sometimes crashes Word (estimate 10%), but usually works, though the process often freezes for an extended period of time. The fonts are embedded, however text often appears somewhat blurry and bolded. (This was an issue in X as well, but I did not see an answer in the forums at the time.)  Printing to pdf produces clear text and I take my blurry and bookmarked version and replace all the pages with the printed to pdf version. Tedious, but it works.

Printing to pdf unfortunately frequently causes apphangs, which clog my print queue. Without administrator rights, I have to restart my computer or have someone from IT clear out the queue.

      My system details:

All items below are updated to current and running in a 32-bit environment. Note that this is an office computer and I am not an administrator on my system.

      -Windows 7

-Office 2010. Primarily use Word and Excel. The Adobe PDFMaker Office COM addin is enabled, though after a few crashes I have to manually enable the addin again.

-Acrobat Pro XI. Converting to PDF printing preferences are set to High Quality Print for both Word and Excel.

-AdobePDF is my default printer and my default printing preference is High Quality Print.

-Acrobat Distiller is set to High Quality Print.
