1. Re: Action error! Actuell layer not available
JJMack Jul 9, 2013 8:07 AM (in response to phosphorspitter)Action steps often have dependencies. If they are not meet the Action step will fail for one reason or an other. The first thing is to expand the action step that is failing when it fails so you can read all that was recorded for the step. So you can see if there are dependencies the step is counting on. Look in the layers palette to see what the current Photoshop target is. For example here is a little action I just recorded. If I play it on the document I recorded it with it will surly fail.
It will fail in step 1 for the document no longer has a layer named Layer 1. Step 3 would also fail for the document has not layer named Layer 3
Correctly recorded the action would look like this.

2. Re: Action error! Actuell layer not available
phosphorspitter Jul 9, 2013 2:04 PM (in response to JJMack)Thank you for the Help but this is not the case. here is a screen shot.
the step should rename the layer to Foto1 but does not.
Here is the Layers palette. As you can see the layer is Layer 1 and selectedand active. In German that is Aktuelle Ebene.
It does not rename the layer. If I stop the action and rename by hand the actun runs.
I must tell that I do not need this action but since it is a lengty discussen in the German Adobe PS forum and I myself haven written many, many actions can not find the cause.
I work in CS6 and think it is a version problem, because the same action runs in CC

3. Re: Action error! Actuell layer not available
JJMack Jul 9, 2013 2:34 PM (in response to phosphorspitter)I can not read German but can clearly see you captured the Action Palette and are not showing the layers palette at the time of failure. If there is a layer targeted the step should work. If there is no layer targeted the step will fail. One needs to see the Layers palette at time of failure.
The error may be that there should be a targeted layer but Photoshop failed to set it.

4. Re: Action error! Actuell layer not available
phosphorspitter Jul 10, 2013 4:37 AM (in response to JJMack)The layer is targeted (selected) the action comand to change the layer name from layer 1 to Foto 2 does not change the name.
Ebene 1 means layer 1.
I have written the command several times but no go.
I guess I need the 01 update but can not find it to download. Any clue where to download it. It is not on Adobe´s site.

6. Re: Action error! Actuell layer not available
phosphorspitter Jul 10, 2013 7:04 AM (in response to JJMack)Thank you for all the time you have spent on this issue. I know you very well through your postings over several years and in special about your scripting knowledge.
I wrote the action in the english version of CS and it works perfect so the problem is in CS6 whitout the update I guess.
Last question: Where can I get the 01 update? Can not find it to download. It is not on Adobe´s site. Google is of no help.
