Flash player 11.8r800 stops working

I have done disabled virus protection, done a complete uninstall of Adobe Flash Player, did a complete reinstall of the latest version and still get a continuing message "Adobe Flash Player 11.8r800 has stopped working."  I am using MS Vista Ultimate. Get the same message with either Explorer or my preferred Firefox.
