Why not use states to show the search input box or a complete widget on the same container as the DataGrid instead of popup. As user types/selects the filters you could use DataGrid's underlying ArrayCollection's filterFunction property to filter the grid.
just my 2 cents!
right - i could use states. i was thinking popup because there isn't a lot of real estate left on the canvas, but i suppose i can work around that. but then i'm curious - why wouldn't i use a popup? i mean, is it feasible? i can pass info between the popup and the screen, right? can i put all of that functionality (query, display, etc) on a popup?
Sure. You can use popup. Yes. Popup can dispatch events, have bindable public properties that parent component can use to add filters to underlying array collection.
I just was thinking that states would probably produce a better user interaction than a popup. But then that was just a thought. Lack of real estate may make it neccessary to user a poup.
