Turn off live preflight. Turn off thumbnails in the pages panel. Make sure live screen drawing is set to delayed. And don't expect miracles with a 5 year old machine. That 14 gigs of RAM is meaningless for CS6.
CC is 64 bit and will take advantage of it, but CS6 won't.
Thanks for the feed back, and yes i accept all the points, and i understand that Indesign is still 32 Bit in this version, i also realise that to go to CC may bring it's own issues, while allowing me to use all the RAM.
What has surprised me is how slow this is even bearing in mind it's age and the fact it's a highish end Mac from 5 years ago, i would have expected it to put up a good effort in comparison with a bottom of the Range current iMac, but, it's currently a no contest.
What might help others to help me is that the issue seems to relate to certain images more than others, and the images placed into illustrator can be moved with no issues what so ever.
