I’ve got a 720 x 404 WMV (v 9) playing on the stage. On
all machines the video looks fine in Windows Media Player. On most
machines the video looks fine through Director, however, two
machines are consistently generating macroblock errors on the
bottom two rows of the video. The problem is present using both
MPEG Advanced Xtra and also when using Director’s own WMV
support. The errors do not appear to be performance related, our
two fastest machines are having the problem. Anyone know what might
be causing this and have a solution?
It turns out, for whatever reason, these two machines do not
like working with macroblock partitions (4 x 4 blocks) even though
they’re legal for WMV 9 and seem to work on most machines. I
re-rendered the video at 720 x 480 (eliminating the partitions) and
scaled the sprite back to 720 x 404 to restore the original aspect
ratio … macroblock errors gone.
