if your eclipse installation is in a su owned directory u'll need to run the installer as su. I usually keep all my apps in my home directory. That way I can make do without su :)

Installer does not require root access....

As I said using OpenSuse 10.2. Had to jump through some hoops originally to get rid of the gnu version of java that came with the distro and install real java to get the free SDK to work. Don't remember now if I reinstalled eclipse or used the version that came with distro. Much more used to RHEL and will push to get it on next machine. Really like Flex. I can see it has some incredible potential. Even at the baby steps level where I am now, I can pull data from db, display, let users edit and save to db. And it is so much faster than any other platform we've tried in the past.
