I've have never seen or read of this behavior before your post.
I'm lost on a possible cause.
I'm also getting the exact same behaviour. Also occassionally and randomly get the color picker when doing something else unconnected - for example right clicking on a clip.
I've been having this problem for awhile now, probably since the last update?
I can replicate it by:
- Switching to After Effects (and sometimes other programs) from Premiere
- Switching back to Premiere
- Right Click a clip in the timeline.
The color picker will appear, followed by the 'Color Matte' name dialog, then the color picker and the dialog again (sometimes 3-4 more times, fortunately mashing the enter key clears them), and then the context menu will open (from the right-click).
Where do we report bugs?
I'm also having this issue. Reported the bug to adobe.

Yes! This has been happening forever for me! Adobe PLEASE fix this, it is unbelievably annoying and time consuming to have the color picker pop up when I switch from AE to Premiere. When I'm color correcting with dynamic links it opens the color picker EVERY TIME I select a new clip in Premiere to edit. I reported the bug a long time ago and nothing has happened. This is seriously a major inconvenience.
It only started happening to me after the latest update. How strange.
I too have had this affect me. At first I thought it coincided with my new wireless keyboard, but it continued to replicate itself without the keyboard connected.
It consistently occurs when I right click on a clip in the timeline, sometimes forcing me to click cancle up to 5 or 6 times before showing the right click menu.
It sometimes appears after I close premiere.
It was annyoing mostly until just a few moments ago it got caught in an endless loop of popping up the color picker which I could only end by force quitting premiere.

Same thing happens to me! Not sure of exact circumstances, but it happens maybe once a week. Using latest Premiere CC.

I reported it yesterday, this is really getting to me , The 8000hz bug in after effects ,http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1360163?tstart=0 and now this color picker issue, it aint easy to be a fulltime editor working with Adobe CC today. Well, im gulity as well, when breaking the first rule of them all, if its working , don´t update, and specially not on the primary system. Anyway, please fix this!
This bug landed on my plate recently for investigation, and today I managed to nail down one simple repro case: In AE, copy one or more Solids or Adjustment Layers to the clipboard (or a comp containing solids/AdjLayers), then right-click in PPro's Project panel, Timeline, or Effect Controls panel. I get one instance of the color picker for each solid copied to the clipboard.
A workaround for this repro case is to copy anything other than a solid or adjustment layer to the clipboard before right-clicking in PPRO.
Edited to add: I encounter the Color Picker only the first time I right-click in PPro after setting focus on the app. Also, once an AE Solid or AdjLayer is on the clipboard, this bug can be reproed each time PPro regains focus, regardless of which app had focus last.
If the Color Picker is popping up for you in cases that do not fit the scenario I've described, please send me a private message; I'll want to follow up to isolate your case.
Yep - same issue here, mostly when right clicking on clips when using AE dynamic link to do VFX stuff etc. Also have been copying an pasting both solids and adjustment layers inside of AE so this is probably the same scenario. If this was reported first in July, how long do you think this'll take to be resolved coz it's driving me crazy. The workaround isn't really feasable for this project as I'm copying and pasting settings from one After Effects comp to another for almost every clip in my timeline so doing that every time is gonna slow me down just the same (still - thanks for the tip).
