End up making custom CRM fields to show they belong to a company rather then trying to use the relationship aspect.
That aspect of the CRM needs a boost to be quite honest to cover your issue and also allow things like A company has access to a secure zone and all people under that share that access. OR if a company has catalog discounts, all the staff share that discount etc.
Relationship is as basic as it can be in BC.

For simplicity I was trying to use the base BC functionality to achieve the task but it looks like a custom CRM field will have to do!
