    Application Manager Issues

    PurplePlumUK Community Member

      Hi

      Background:

      MacBook Pro Mid 2010 17" - OS 10.7.5

The hard drive died on me a week or three back. I've had it repaired by a bonafide Apple approved repairer with a straight like-for-like drive, but taken the opportunity to have extra RAM added.

I'd not backed up the system/applications, just the data. So I reinstalled from the discs, my copy of Adobe Suite, starting with CS4 through CS5 & 5.5 to CS6. All fine and dandy.

      What happened:

This week I decided to check for updates to CS6. So I booted Photoshop, chose  menu: Help  > updates. Application Manager booted showing updates were available for CS5.5 and CS6 so I clicked to update all (some 1.7GB's worth). The downloading bar travelled way too quickly across the screen, as did the "Updating" bar and then I got the "Failed" message. Clicking on the 'more info' about the errors, I found statements simply saying the update had failed for every application with no information about the nature of the failure.

I checked my broadband providers user usage  and 1.7GB had definitely not been downloaded.

This was Adobe App Manager (AAM) 6.0.0.XXX, can't remember exactly. After a scout about I found there was version 7.0 available so I downloaded this from Adobe.com, being careful to follow directions for people not using Creative Cloud. Clicked on the Installer.

CreativeCloud appeared with no obvious way to access the non-cloud app manager. So downloaded the cleaner to remove this element only. Tad tedious and annoying.

Managed to access AAM and confirmed it was version 7. It indicated there were updates for CS5/.5 but no CS6 updates were listed. I clicked update. Both downloading and updating bars travelled a lot slower -> success! CS5.5 updated (Except for Flash).

      Questions:

How do I confirm AAM is recognising CS6 is installed?

Was the previous version of AAM wrong to show updates available for CS6 - or should I see updates listed? My current CS6 versions are - Photoshop: 13.0.5; Illustrator 16.0.4; InDesign 8.0.1; Dreamweaver 12.0 (and never mind about Fireworks as I never use it).

Thanks for reading, hope you can help.

You can find updates for Adobe applications at the page linked below if you want to see what's what for them all.

          https://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/

If you find an update there you can get it directly rather than going thru the manager.

In case it makes a difference... it is not necessary to install all the versions of the CS suites as you have done unless you have a need for all of them going back as far as CS4.  You can install CS6 alone and would only need to have the serial number of the earlier version(s) to activate CS6.

            Hi Ned

Thank you for taking the time. That's a helpful link. The Adobe website is a bit of a warren. Not sure I'd have found that, though I was thinking of looking this morning.

You are correct about not necessary for all versions installed. Unfortunately I did and do need CS4 still, as I have a fair amount of legacy work, CS6 won't open.  Needed CS4 this week as it happens. I have been debating whether I needed to install CS5/.5 though and whether to uninstall it.

            Thank you again.

I've checked using the link Ned supplied and it seems Dreamweaver CS6 is due updates. Now I've checked again today with Adobe Application Manager (AAM) and it is telling me all applications are uptodate. This is clearly incorrect. I've looked in AAMs preferences and CS6 is listed and ticked. Just as I didn't beleive the download bar, I don't beleive this list.

Can anyone tell me what to do to ensure AAM is correctly detecting updates?

Downloading via the downloads page will be a tedious activity.

              Thank you.

PurplePlumUK what version of Dreamweaver do you currently have installed?  It appears the current version, as of this moment, is 12.2.0.6006.

I am sorry PurplePlumUK it appears you have created another discussion thread on this topic.  I would ask that you continue with your discussion at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1269353.

                    Hi Jeff.

Yeah, apologies. After I'd added on to the end of this discussion, I thought it was actually a different question I was asking.

My About Dreamweaver tells me 12.0. I've manually downloaded the updates from this site. Not sure where you've got 12.2 from, though as "Staff" I presume you're right.

Anyway, I'm continuing the discussion as you say at:

                    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1269353.

                    Thank you.
