How to disable MainConcept MPEG-2 Video Decoder from Adobe Premiere Elements 11

    hfreiwald Level 1

      Hallo,

          Hello,

have Adobe Premiere Elements 11 (Windows 7 64-bit) used once to play a mpg video file. To install or activate the program following codec or DirectShow filter: MainConcept MPEG-2 Video Decoder from the "C: \ Program Files \ Adobe \ Adobe Premiere Elements 11 \ 32 \ mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax" file. Playing the mpg video works then also with the video editor Adobe Premiere Elements 11

Now I wanted the program "Audials One 10" Rapid Solution rip or copy a DVD movie. Audials One starts to actually play the DVD with the Windows Media Player, and then records the playback on screen, but it will not start. Canceled then the message "To record a DVD on your system must be a part of a third-party software that is installed on your system, werden.Es temporarily disabled is called a Direct Show filter.: Please confirm .... If you want, you can prevent this in the future by uninstalling the program that contains the following file: C: \ Program Files \ Adobe \ Adobe Premiere Elements 11 \ 32 \ mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax "

I have found no way to disable the codec from Adobe "MainConcept MPEG-2 Video Decoder" (also with "InstalledCodec.exe" from NirSoft - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/installed_codec.html - helps " Disable "for the codec is not), I had to completely uninstall Adobe Premiere to record the disc with Audials One, then what has worked.

After that, I still wanted to complete the whole thing again and after some problems (Adobe chat support had to help) Adobe Premiere Elements 11 to install again, I have an mpg (MPEG-2) re-opened video file into the video editor of PE and played. Again, the codec "MainConcept MPEG-2 Video Decoder" was activated again and again brings Audials One 10 DVD recording warning message as above.

My question: How can the activated Adobe Premiere Elements codec (DirectShow Filter) "MainConcept MPEG-2 Video Decoder" off again without PE again each time to remove it when a DVD with Audials One 10 is to be added?

As best I can read the Google Translate, your situation seems to be the you have Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 7 64 bit, yet want to rip VOBs from DVD using a program called Audials One 10, and Audials One 10 will not work with Premiere Elements 11 installed on this same computer. And, when you uninstall Premiere Elements 11 so that you can use Audials One 10, you have had difficulties reinstalling Premiere Elements 11. You seem to think that you can solve the problem by disabling the MainConcept MPEG-2 Video Decoder.

Before I can begin to think about this, I need to ask

"Are you aware that you can rip VOBs from DVD using Premiere Elements 11, Add Media/DVD camera or computer drive?"

But be advised that Premiere Elements does not work with protected media.

Have you contacted Audials One 10 to assure that you are using its program correctly for what you want to do?

          More later.

Audials One 11 plays directyl the DVD with Windows Media Player and has the possibility to record all things which are displayed on screen in the videoframe by capturing the content of the display memory and audio is captured from soundcard, so also protected media can be recorded - the can be played with WMP or other DVD software and that is enough -, but this is not possible with Premiere Elements.

Yes, I'm absolutely sure, that the codec from PE (MainConcept MPEG-2 Video Decoder) prevents audials to play and record the DVD (audials suppose to uninstall the software which installs / activates this code). After fresh installation of Premiere Elements without playing first time a MPEG-2 video, audials has no problems to record DVD, but after playing the first time a MPEG-2 video with Premiere, the codec "MainConcept MPEG-2 Video Decoder" was activated (by confirming windows 7 registry activation prompt set in motion by Premiere Elements), and audials fails to start recording the DVD.

I'm sure, I use Audials One 10 correct (I could record a DVD without activated DirectShow Filter "MainConcept MPEG-2 Video Decoder" before it was activated by Premiere Elements with first play of MPEG-2 video) it is a problem of Premiere Elements used codec file "mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax".

Notice: some codecs from Premiere Elements 11, i.e. for mp4 or mpeg video, are not activated with installation of Premiere Elements 11, they become active, when the first time a mp4 or mpeg video is opened in videoeditor of Premiere Elements 11. If I prevent starting and opening a mpeg video in PE, I could fine use audilas one feature "DVD recording".

So the question is still, how can I temporary disable the Premiere Elements codecs: DirectShow Filter "MainConcept MPEG-2 Video Decoder"?

And still there is questionable, why uses Premiere Elements an extra codec (DirectShow Filter) for playing mpeg-2 videos? Playing mpeg-2 videos is already standard on windows 7 without any extra codecs, the os delivers already this codec, like seen with Windows Media Player 12. Why does PE not use this one?

I also do not know of any way to disable that Premiere Elements 11 MainConcept MPEG2 Video Decoder file that you point to.

And, I do not know enough about your use of Audials One to confirm that there is not an alternative explanation for what you are doing and running into.

There are all sorts of ways to disable files by just renaming them, but in nearly all cases the files automatically regenerate. Or, in your case, reactivate when your Internet connection is active. Is it at all feasible to put the programs on two different computers for your unprotected work?

I can offer no more, except maybe the suggestion to explore the Audioal One forum to see if someone there knows why this particular Premiere Elements file is interferring with its operation. Maybe there is a way to modify Audials One so that it will be not be influenced by other programs on the same computer.

A reminder, this is not Adobe. We are just Premiere Elements users trying to help other Premiere Elements users with their workflow issues.

Sorry, but the codec "MainConcept MPEG-2 Video Decoder" from C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 11\32\mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax with version 8.5.0.70720 2009-09-25 is very old. Why does Adobe use such old software components in there program, which were designed for Windows XP or Vista and not for Windows 7 (in 2009 at this time no windows 7 has been available).

What happens if you rename and/or move mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax before using your ripping program?

                  Cheers,

                    thank you Neale,

                    the following helps:

                    C:\Windows\system32>regsvr32.exe -u "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 11\32\mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax"

                    and then:

                    rename "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 11\32\mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax" "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 11\32\mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax.bak"

then audials one works correct and after using it, I can return to previous conditions with

                    rename "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 11\32\mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax,bak" "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe PremiereElements 11\32\mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax"

                    C:\Windows\system32>regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 11\32\mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax"

Not the best solution, but it helps.

Notice: audials one does not ripp, it captures from screen and soundcard.

Back in post 3, I had already mentioned the concept of renaming a file to disable it.

There are all sorts of ways to disable files by just renaming them, but in nearly all cases the files automatically regenerate. Apparently, you tried this file renaming route to what you would like to do and now say that it helps.

Out of curiosity, I would comment and ask...

                      a. You say that after renaming the decoder file and before you open Premiere Elements again, you can use your other program

                      b. When you go to open Premiere Elements are you finding the "disabled" file regenerated or, if you have an Internet connection, are you greeted with another Activation to recover the file?

Why curiosity? I didn't understand your first post 3 (I normally speak german).

If the file keeps renamed, audials one work like expected and Adobe Premiere Elements don't generate the file again (I have a permanent internet connection). Playing an mpeg video is still working, also if codec file is renamed. But Premiere Elements installs/activates this codec after first time opening a mpeg video file in video editor. So I wonder for what this codec file "mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax" is good or used? It is also a very old code from year 2009. So why uses Adobe such old software components? MainConcept has meanwhile a newer coder MPEG-2 Video Decoder, especically for 64-Bit OS and Windows 7, but this costs about 40 Euro.

Next notice: after renaming codec file, codec is still enabled in registry and can be displayed in "installed_codec" program from NirSoft. If Premiere Elements can use the renamed codec file, I don't know and I don't know how to check this! And renaming alone does not help to do a recording of a DVD with Audials One 10, I have also to unregister the codec file with "regsvr32.exe -u" and then the codec "MPEG-2 Video Decoder" does nomore appear under codec list in "installed_codecs" and DVD recording with Audials One works.

I have not tried renaming of the specific file that you mention, but, in the past, when I have used renaming to disable a Premiere Elements file, this is what typically happened.

                          a. if the file name was xxxxx.yyy and I disabled it by renaming to xxxxx.yyyOLD and closed out of the program files

                          b. then reopened Premiere Elements and looked in the program files

                          c. then I had in the program files location TWO files, one named xxxxx.yyy (the regenerated one) and xxxxx.yyyOLD (the one renamed to disable it).

So my curiosity was "Did that happen in your case?"...TWO files, a regenerated one and the OLD one.

I'm still experimenting about this with Premiere Elements. First time I had only the renamed file after restarting Premiere Elements and also after using an mpeg video file in video editor. But notice again, only renaming is not the solution, you have also to unregister the codec file by "regsvr32.exe -u <filename>". Please try to rename only this file: mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax, may be other will be regenerated by Premiere Elements, if it starts again.

Second time: I rename codec file "mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax" to "mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax.bak" and unregistered "mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax" with "regsvr32.exe". Then I started Premiere Elements 11 with a previous project containing a mpg-video: the video could nomore be loaded and after closing Adobe Premiere Elements the Windows 7 error message about "not working Adobe Premiere Elements 11" rises up and Windows 7 requests to send a problem report to Microsoft.

I have only one computer, but additional with some virtual machines, one of them with windows 7 64Bit, but "Audials One 10" does not run in virtual machines. So no chance to do like you suggest. This should be solved for one computer and I called already Adobe support hotline. They will investigate and inform me. I also wrote a mail to MainConcept, because it is their codec, which makes difficulties in Adobe Premiere Elements.

                                      C:\Windows\system32\regsvr32.exe -u "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 11\32\mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax"

                                      rename "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 11\32\mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax" "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 11\32\mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax.bak"

c:\<insert program path>\audials (or whatever start audials)

                                      pause

                                      rename "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 11\32\mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax,bak" "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe PremiereElements 11\32\mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax"

                                      C:\Windows\system32\regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 11\32\mc_dec_mp2v_ds.ax"

Run this command file to run your audials. It will run your registry hack and file rename then start audials. When you exit audials click the command file on the taskbar and press enter to reset the files for PRE.

                                      Cheers,

                                        Hi nealeh,

thank you, good idea, it works. I made addtional a windows task (with windows 7 task administration) for this command file, which is executed with hightest priviledge (admin rights) and furtherone I made a desktop link with the "audials" icon to this task, so it can be started over a double mouse click to this icon on the desktop. This works fine. After finishing work with audials, I can use Premiere Elements as usual.

                                        Here the link:

name: "Audials One 10 without Codec"

                                        destination: C:\Windows\System32\schtasks.exe /run /TN AudialsOneMy

                                        Here the task:

                                        action: "run program", program/script: C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe,

                                        arguments: /c start "AudialsOneMy" "C:\Users\<username>\Temp\run-audials-without-MPEG-2-codec.cmd"

                                        general: execute with highest priviledge

"run-audials-without-MPEG-2-codec.cmd" is the name of the above command file from your post (just on typing mistake inside: ".....ax,bak" shoudl be "...as.bak"; a dot and not a comma, but I could corrected it - copy and paste failure)

"MainConcept App Support" did answer, but nothing I could use. They just tells something about the GraphEdit SDK and other filter manager. I don't want to install additional software like an SDK from Microsoft or using a filter manager that changes filter merits in the registry.

                                        Bye

Here the last answer from MainConcept,

                                          TotalCode and MainConcept Apps support:

                                          <quote>

I'm afraid that Elements 11 is using whatever SDK they licensed from us, how it uses that and how it behaves is dependent on what Adobe did with it. If they need to upgrade the SDK they use then they would need to contact SDK support and sales. Your workaround is perfectly reasonable. This site is for support of MainConcept consumer applications and plug ins and for TotalCode products support and can't really provide support for applications that have used our SDK's. They must provide that support for their own applications..

I believe you should contact Adobe and ask this last question as I really have no idea at all. I'll see if I can find anything out about it.

                                          /<quote>

I'm not very satisfied with Adobe support: this morning I opened a support ticket by telephone. In the evening the support ticket was withdrawn without any support actions.
