    Layers for text

Ok, when you have text on an image. But the image makes it hard to see the text, so you have another color outlinning it or behind it. I need to know if you have to do that. I heard it has something to do with layers.

Add a stroke to the text using the Property Inspector. No extra layer
required. Or use the Photoshop Live Filter, Stroke.

The stroke will sit along the outline of the text - part of the outline is inside, part is outside. For small font sizes, it can make the text hard to read. In that case, make a copy of your text and only put the stroke on the bottom one.

You can also use the drop shadow or the glow. Click the plus sign next to Filters (Properties panel) and select Shadow and Glow. Experiment with the size, color, offset, and opacity of the shadow or glow. To remove, select the object, select the applied filter, then click on the minus sign.

what font are you using ? aside from the stroke mentioned by Jim ,you can try these

1.) Duplicate the text, gives a " bolder look "

2.) If you dont want to use the stroke , or the shadow and glow fw filters, you can use the photoshop live effects > outer glow. Like this tutorial i made in fireworksguru >>

I havent decided on a text yet But ive been trying things with JI-Balsam and JI-Anadem fonts. I guess im new to fireworks and i dont quite understand what every one is telling me to do. I actually have to draw the stroke around the text? Thats my problem. I cant do it straight. I do like what you; made in the fireworksguru thing tho.
