1. Re: when I export an indesign document the graphics are missing from the eps file.
Steve Werner Aug 13, 2013 5:20 PM (in response to big.Lil)What version of InDesign? What platform?
Why are you exporting EPS from Adobe InDesign? How are you determining that the graphics are missing? All graphics or only some (which ones)?

big.Lil Aug 13, 2013 6:11 PM (in response to Steve Werner)HI Steve -
I'm using Indesign6 on a Mac. The eps file contains text only.
Thanx!

Steve Werner Aug 13, 2013 6:36 PM (in response to big.Lil)In order for us to help, you need to answer some of the questions I asked:
Why are you exporting EPS from Adobe InDesign? How are you determining that the graphics are missing (how are you viewing the EPS)? Which graphics are not there (AI, Photoshop, TIFF, what?)

4. Re: when I export an indesign document the graphics are missing from the eps file.
big.Lil Aug 13, 2013 6:45 PM (in response to Steve Werner)Am exporting an Indesign eps to Photoshop6 to convert to a tiff file.
When I view the file (tiff preview) in Indesign only the text appears.
Elements other than text - Illustrator6 eps files - don't show up.
Have used this method successfully several times in the past.
Advise?

6. Re: when I export an indesign document the graphics are missing from the eps file.
big.Lil Aug 13, 2013 9:42 PM (in response to BobLevine)Yes, I can export pdf and jpeg files in Indesign and open them in Photoshop.
Why am I unable to export eps files?
Thanx

7. Re: when I export an indesign document the graphics are missing from the eps file.
Steve Werner Aug 13, 2013 9:46 PM (in response to big.Lil)Short answer: PDF is a more up-to-date and reliable a format than EPS. EPS is an older format, and is showing its age.
I've given more technical answers here recently but I can't seem to see it tonight.

big.Lil Aug 13, 2013 10:00 PM (in response to Steve Werner)Thanx Steve -
have successfully exported jpegs and pdf files to Photoshop from InDesign.
However, as long @ exporting an eps is an option, why doesn't it work?

9. Re: when I export an indesign document the graphics are missing from the eps file.
MW Design Aug 13, 2013 10:49 PM (in response to big.Lil)The why it isn't working can be a number of reasons. While I never have exported an EPS out of ID before, I just tried it and it worked fine.
What "graphics" are missing? I used bitmaps, native drawn ID vector, lines and a placed EPS file. Came into AI as an opened EPS fine.
Links up to date? For items not hitting the EPS, are they on a layer set to non-printing?
In the export dialog,General tab, PostScript Level 3? Data format set to ASCII? On the Advanced tab, Send Data set to All? OPI off?

You should not use EPS or any other PostScript at all with InDesign. From Illustrator place AI files, for exporting use a PDF. If you want to open it in Photoshop use a PDF without transparency flattening.

BobLevine Aug 14, 2013 5:32 AM (in response to big.Lil)EPS from ID was never intended to do what you're doing. Use PDF and be done with it.
It's a far better format.
