    Burning DVD Disc's

    timothyharris1050

I just got Premier Elements 11.  I upgraded from PE 4.  When I tried to burn my first disc using the a unique background overlayed on the first "Sideshow" menu available, the "Subtitle" text changed aspect ratio and was a elongated off the screen. It apperars to be happening when it's "encoding media".

      Am I doing something wrong?

          Tim,

          Welcome to the forum.

Can you give us the full details of your Source Clips?

          And the Project's Settings?

It could well just be a mis-match in those details.

          Good luck,

What specific Premiere Elements 11 movie menu is involved with this issue?

What have you set as your Premiere Elements 11 project preset? If you do not know, please check under Edit Menu/Project Settings/General Editing Mode/Timebase/Frame Size. What are you using for burn to, settings for DVD-VIDEO Standard 4:3 or DVD-VIDEO Widescreen 16:9? What is the format of what you have on the Timeline...4:3 or 16:9?

            Need clarification on

When I tried to burn my first disc using the a unique background overlayed on the first "Sideshow" menu available, the "Subtitle" text changed aspect ratio and was a elongated off the screen. It apperars to be happening when it's "encoding media".

            a. "a unique background overlayed"...is that a background replacement/insert into the main menu of the disc menu that you selected?

            b. "Sideshow" menu available

            c. "it appears to be happening when it's "encoding media"....what did the disc menu main menu and scene selection pages look like in the preview section of Movie Menus for you went to Publish+Share for your burn to?

            d. Is it only the main menu page that has issues or is the scene selection page involved as well?

Looking forward to your follow up.

            Thanks.

I use a jpg. File (720x480)  to replace the background image in the slideshow template.  I have to use the “Subtitle” feature because it won’t let me delete it.  It looks great when I preview the Discs, it only happens when it burns the disc and it occurs when it’s “encoding media”.  I know that because I cancel the burn process and go back to the menu and the text is elongated off the screen.

                Tim Harris,

I would suggest that you remove your personal information to avoid nuisances.

I am guessing that you are using the Pan and Zoom disc menu under the Slideshow category.

If you want to get rid ot the main menu text that says "Submenu".

                a. have the main menu page on the screen

                b. double click the Submenu text to open the Change Text dialog

                c. In the Change Text dialog, delete the text, hit the Enter key, and then click OK.

                d. The "Submenu" text should be gone.

Information on your project preset, format of video on Timeline, and your choice of DVD-VIDEO Standard or Widescreen should pin point the matter. When you select your movie menu, does the thumbnail have a HD at the top right corner of the theme thumbnail?

Thanks.  I did manage to delete the “Subtitles” text box by just choosing edit and deleting all the text.  I am using the Canon  XA10 camera and capturing in AVCHD to a 16GB Card.  I’m importing my video via the computer SD slot.  I am using the default setup in my presets.

I am using the Pan and Zoom menu on the slideshow option.  Once I got rid of the subtitle box and put all my information in the movie title text box it still does the same thing.  It increases my type font and makes it run all over the screen.

                        Tim Harris,

From what I have read of your Canon XA10, it records at 1080i60, 1080p24, and what is called native 1080p24. Can I assume that you have your camera set for 1080i60 which would be 1920 x 1080 16:9 at 29.97 interlaced frames per second (aka 60 fields per second). The audio would be 2 channel PCM. If so, then the project preset should be

                        NTSC

                        AVCHD

                        Full HD1080i30

That project preset should give you the correct space in the Edit Mode Monitor from which to edit. And, that project preset should make available to you HD set for movie menus, if the movie menu has a HD set included with a SD standard set and SD widescreen set.

All that being said plus the fact that you say that the Preview of the menu created in Movie Menu looks fine, then let us focus on...

                        a. Are you resizing or changing the text on the main menu..either Play Movie, Movie Title or Subtitle? What font type and font size? Is any of the text overlapping?

                        b. If you omit the replacement background and leave you text as you edited it, do you see the text problem?

I just did a run through on what you described, and did not run into this problem. I even markedly increase the font size etc can could not force the problem with this Slideshow/Pan and Zoom movie menu.

For troubleshooting purposes, have you tried another menu? Remember, you have to download a menu in order to use it in the project. Check out the thumbnail for the movie menu choices. The one with the blue band at the top right of the thumbnail will indicate that the movie menu needs to be downloaded before use.

Please review and then we can decide what next.

                        Thank you.

                            Tim Harris,

The Adobe party line is no, you cannot change the project preset after your have established it. You need to start a new project.

But, I have shown that significant project settings can be changed to bring about this result by editing the Notepad document of the saved project.prel file under certain circumstances. The how to on this is described in one of my blog posts.

                            http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/05/pe11-changing-project-settings-without.html

Depending on how much time that you have invested in your current project, starting a new project may be the easier route.

But, check out your options, and I will be glad to help you with your decision.

                            Thanks.
