Not at all compatible. ID2 is VERY old (circa 2002). Your OS is about 10 years newer.
ID2 was designed for "Mac OS 9.1, 9.2.x, or Mac OS X v.10.1.x, 10.2.x." according to Wikipedia.
Thank you for that, do you know what newer version of InDesign I should upgrade to read my old InDesign files and be compatible with 10.6.8? Keeping economy in mind. Thanks again for your previous response.
The only versions which you can buy from Adobe are:
(1) InDesign CS6 purchase. You'll not have an opportunity for an upgrade price because your version is much too old.
(2) Subscription to InDesign CC (either monthly or yearly subscription). Probably the cheapest option.
(3) If you use Adobe applications other than InDesign, a subscription to the Adobe Creative Cloud (either monthly or yearly subscription).
Both CS6 and CC should work on 10.6.8 assuming you have at least 2 Gb of RAM.

For InDesign CC it's:
However, there seems to be an omission here.
You cannot install one of the new services for InDesign CC, Typekit, on OSX 10.6.8:
Thank you again for your great help. Think I'm off in the right direction on this, hope that I'll be able to retrieve my data from 2.02, Thank you again, much appreciated.
Your files should open OK, but as a precaution you should immediately export to .idml from your new version, then open that and save as a new .indd file (don't overwrite the old one, just in case).
Thank you for the great help will follow-up on those links and see the best direction to go. Many thanks again.
