Steve Fairbairn Aug 19, 2013 7:13 AM (in response to ThomasBB83)Try the > key instead of the tilde.
It works on an Icelandic keyboard, so you never know your luck on a Danish one :-)

ThomasBB83 Aug 19, 2013 7:16 AM (in response to Steve Fairbairn)I'm guessing it's the one next to Z you're referring to?
It doesn't seem to work here, if I switch to Icelandic layout, for some reason. :-(

Steve Fairbairn Aug 19, 2013 7:23 AM (in response to ThomasBB83)I just tried it to test whether my memory might be playing tricks on me.
It works like I said on my keyboard.
Hold down < (to the left of Z) and drag with either of the selection tools.
It also works by holding down the < key and tapping on the up-down, left-right arrow keys (nudge).
Rotate, Scale and Shear work the same way.

Jacob Bugge Aug 19, 2013 8:19 AM (in response to ThomasBB83)Thomas,
Actually, the tilde key only works on a US (English) keyboard; it is different on a UK keyboard.
Here is an overview of known keys for the job:
Tilde key: UK: ' (just below the @, to the left of Enter, at least in CS6), Icelandic and German: < (just to the right of Shift), Danish: æ (just to the right of L)
Obviously, to the right of Shift is the same as to the left of Z.
Hi Steve.

Sigurdur Armannsson Aug 19, 2013 2:10 PM (in response to ThomasBB83)There is another way around this – but maybe you know it and are trying to work more freely. Anyway..
Hit R or S or O for what you want to do.
Click on the object with the pattern but at the same time holding down the Alt key (Option).
In the dialog box that now appears, uncheck Transform Object and check Transform Pattern.
Check Preview.
Now hover over the numeric fields and scroll with your mouse or type in number or even use up and down arrows to change the numbers and even further add the Shift key to have the numbers run by 10 at the time.
This process is fast and gives much better control than the Tilde solution.
@Steven: I am using the Icelandic keyboard but the Tilde is not working for me any longer it seems (since I am using Illustrator CC I guess) Correction: It actually does. I checked again, sorry, but hi, anyway

Steve Fairbairn Aug 19, 2013 4:01 PM (in response to Sigurdur Armannsson)Hi Siggi.
My Icelandic Mac keyboard hasn’t got a tilde key, but I can use the > key to good effect.
However, like you, I prefer to work numerically so the question seldom arises.
Stebbi.

Sigurdur Armannsson Aug 19, 2013 4:09 PM (in response to Steve Fairbairn)Right.
For Thomas, when you finally find the Tilde button (works for me using the > (between Shift and Z) on Danish keyboard layout), try also to hold it down while you mak any shape, ellipse, line, square. It's amazing and it's fun to test every three-four years. I have never actually used it in anything but for fun.

Thanks for the many answers.

That's also a possibility. I think that's what we're gonna go with, since I can't get tilde to work with danish layout. Or I'll just bite the bullet and enable English layout, so the designers can use the shortcut :-)

Æ+R doesn't seem to work here, either, for some reason.

It's actually quite useful for us. I work in the clothing industry and being able to make "weird" patterns easily is pretty good for us. But the ability to easily rotate a pattern inside an object is extremely important for us.
I think one of our designers referred to it as "the magic button" :-)

Right you are, sorry, but I believe you will find that the æ works for the sillier uses, no?

10. Re: Shortcut only working with english keyboard layout
ThomasBB83 Aug 20, 2013 2:40 AM (in response to Jacob Bugge)Indeed it does! It's odd how it doesn't work for the rotate and scale part then. :-)

Jacob Bugge Aug 20, 2013 3:56 AM (in response to ThomasBB83)Quite, Thomas.
I wonder whether the same limitation applies to the Icelandic and German (and maybe other Continental) keyboards.
