    Multilanguage Meta Description

A client has asked me to update his pages with multiple language meta descriptions.

I doubt this is possible as language is specified by the html but I am hoping some clever person can tell me otherwise.

ie On the same page I want to have a meta description in English, Chinese, Greek, French and a couple other languages.

It's possible, but only if the page is served in UTF-8 encoding.
However, the value of doing so is highly doubtful. "Speed up your Site:
Web Site Optimization" published by New Riders in 2003 says a
description should be no more than 25 words, and the keywords meta tag
should be 200 characters or less. The recommendations are based on what
          search engines actually use.

In fact, many people suggest that meta tags are of limited value these
days, because search engines look more for "relevant content" than
simply at meta tags. If you have meta tags in Chinese, but no Chinese
content, they're likely to be ignored.

            Thanks for that.

I will suggest to my customer to translate the whole site in each language. It only has half a dozen pages.
