You can't go wrong with Sandee Cohen's books: Visual QuickStart to InDesign and Design Into Print.
and this forum is a wealth of knowledge and a source for answers to specific questions you might have provided by users with years of real world experience.
I second Peter's recommendation of Sandee's Visual QuickStart books for InDesign. They're available for all versions of InDesign, and are remarkably inexpensive and designed for a beginner.
AND if you're using CC there print version has QR codes that let you see movies of the techniques.
AND you get a free ePub and PDF version.
AND my email address is in the intro and you can email me with questions.
Some other options for learning InDesign:
If you want a printed book or ebook, lesson files, and video tutorials try the InDesign Digital Classroom.
If you want to learn from full-length video training (recorded courses online) try DigitalClassroom.com
There are many places offering InDesign Classes that you might benefit from, and Sandee, myself, and others also speak at seminars and workshops as well.
As full disclosure: I'm the author of the book, and close friends created the video tutorials on the site mentioned above.
