Mirifarr I would recommend checking your installation logs for error messages. You can find details on how to locate and interpret your installation log files at Troubleshoot install issues with log files | CC - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cc.html.
In my case I finally found that I needed to uninstall the beta version (Adobe Edge Preview) using the uninstaller that came with it before I could install the regular version. I didn't even know it was there until I did a search and finally found the un-install utility.
I found the answer by doing the same thing you are doing and searching the forums for help in getting rid of Edge Preview.
