1. Re: Why does selection within an image detail automatically select inverse, Photoshop CC
c.pfaffenbichler Aug 27, 2013 11:20 PM (in response to brushwipe)When I wish to select a detail within an image and right click to make the selection Photoshop CC automatically selects the inverse of the image, including the entire canvas.
Please explain what you are doing exactly and provide a screenshot with the pertinent Panels and Option Bar visible.

brushwipe Aug 27, 2013 11:49 PM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)Hello, I attach screen shots of problem. First is close up of church detail. Then shot of layers panel and option panel. Unfortunately the option drop down menu for selection does not remain visible when making the screen shot with the snipping tool but the racing ants around the canvas can be seen. I then have to select ‘inverse’ which I do not think is normal operation in Photoshop Hope this explains problem. kind regards, Bill Watters

Images attached to email-replies are useless, please post in the browser.
Are you trying to load the transparency of a Layer by cmd/ctrl-clicking its icon in the Layers Panel?

4. Re: Why does selection within an image detail automatically select inverse, Photoshop CC
brushwipe Aug 28, 2013 1:46 AM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)Hi, I’m not attempting to load anything. I have selected the layer of the church because that’s the layer on which I want to work. Can you see that I have selected the side of the church with the aim of increasing the moonlight on it. The point I’m making is that when making the selection after outlining the church with the pen and clicking in the selection option window Photoshop selects the canvas which then requires me to select inverse to be able to paint the church side.

Please post the image.
after outlining the church with the pen and clicking in the selection option
I had asked you to describe what you do on post one and you now finally mention you are working with Paths?
Please provide a screenshot with the Paths Panel visible.
If you select one of the path items what is its Shape Operation as indicated in the Options Bar?

brushwipe Aug 28, 2013 2:29 AM (in response to Trevor Dennis)Hi Trevor, No, I’m trying to isolate an area for airbrushing. I am currently designing a web site prior to taking it into DW. When I first downloaded Photoshop CC it worked fine but now it automatically selects the reverse; that is, the rest of the image and not the selected detail of the church side.
