I set it under the fields calculate setting, under custom calculation script.

I set the format category to date, then custom and set it up as mmddyyyyHHMMss
Clearing the formatting fixed the issue.

If it's a calculation script, it really should be:
event.value = util.printd("mmddyyyyHHMMss", new Date());
This will cause the field value to be updated whenever any field value in the form changes. If you want it to update at some other time, such as when the form is initially opened or when a button is pressed, there are other places you should place the code. Post again if you need more help.
Actually yes, how do I make it so that when the form is opened the date is updated.
Also another unrelated question that you may be able to answer (If not I will post a new topic), but is there a way to make these scripts work in the Android version of reader or another app or am I out of luck there?
The script I posted should work in Reader for Android.
