John T Smith Sep 6, 2013 1:23 PM (in response to pdwill)Something MORE than Adobe's MINimums http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/tech-specs.html
More memory... faster CPU... at least two 7200 rpm hard drives... graphics adapter that supports hardware acceleration

wondtacular Sep 9, 2013 1:13 PM (in response to John T Smith)Thank you, John, for all of those links. I'm bumping this because I had the same question and would be interested to see if OP has any updates on the uprgades you're going with, and if so where you're getting your components.
I'm deciding if it's worth investing almost a grand in proprietary Apple drives & cards, or around two grand to get considerably more power with a custom-built PC. After poring over this forum I guess most people would vote the latter?

wondtacular Sep 9, 2013 1:54 PM (in response to John T Smith)Thanks! I've been working on a hypothetical PC build but I'll start a new thread so as not to hijack. Still would love to hear if anyone has good MP options.

6. Re: Premier use on a MAC
hbernhard Sep 11, 2013 1:24 AM (in response to pdwill)After goofing around more then 10 years with self built PC's I decided to go for an appliance based approach:
- Latestfull blown iMac for the 80% coverage; i.e. workflow up to 2K including AVCHD; programs
include PPro CC, After Effects CC, Cubase 7, Wavelab 8, more than 100 video and audio plugins,
etc.
- External Raid6 disk subsystem (Thunderbolt 1 based)
- Backup on external disks
If I can ever earn money with the missing 20 % coverage (e.g. 4K native) I can easily expand and interconnect a:
- Workstation or new MP (fyi HP annouced yesterday that Thunderbolt 2 will be supported on their Z
series too)
- External Raid6 disk subsystem (Thunderbolt 2 or 10 Gbit based)
- Tape based backup LTO 6 (2 TB can be backuped in approx. 3 hours on a single tape)
My recommendation is either to beef up your current system or to buy a balanced system from an video expert company. Still you should do your homework first, i.e. what to you want to edit/achieve, etc. --> this is not part of your post unfortunately
