YOU Want Ray Traced3d Extrude and Bevel in Cs6 KAHNNNN!
Take a look here. It's easy to do but you apply shatter to a solid and then use your text layer as a custom shape. Then you can use layers or colors to color the sides and the back of the extruded shape.
This tutorial covers some ways of getting 3d text in old versions of AE. Perhaps one of them will be a good solution for you. I will say, Element or Zaxwerks 3d Invigorator are your best bets, but they cost money.
Net, yes CS6 would be nice but I'm stuck with CS5.5 for now.
Rick, I have this working already what I needed was some way to move the Shatter object without using the camera. So I could have more than one caption on the screen at one time. They're basically signs around a square tower in 3d. I can either use the camera to move from one to the other or just use pos and rot. But either way I needed to offset the postion of each caption.
Szalam, I was considering the multilayer method, I was put off by the render time, I think it'll be too much with 10 captions, MoBlur and lighting.
Well looks like nothing works for me this time I was hoping there was an expression or script to move objects in Shatter.
A layer for each object and pre-composing. Simple as that. Most AE animation problems can be solved by separating elements and/or pre-composing.
Sorry Rick, I don't get how that would work.
Do you mean have each caption in a PreComp with the camera move and ligthing, then bring them together at the end?
Would you offest each camera in each PreComp so the captions would appear in different plavces in the final?
Sounds tricky to get everything to match up with the lighting especially, or am I missing something?
