Did you save the document after adding password security?
It all sounds exactly as it's supposed to be... isn't it doing what it says?
Yes - it's on any document. I get this message when I open documents that have been saved onto the desktop.
No...it's not. I cannot add security on ANY document whether it's saved or not. I get that error message every time.
Yes, you will get that message every time. Everyone does. It isn't an error message!!
Thanks for your response.
However, you're missing the point. I cannot add passwords to any PDF document, period. After I get that message (which, that message does NOT make any sense at all since the documents are SAVED onto the desktop...), I cannot add a password. I tried resetting prompts, uninstalling, reinstalling, repairing the install and I still cannot put a password on any document.
Whether the documents are already saved is of no important. As the message says you must NOW SAVE THEM AGAIN.
I understand what you're saying. Let's forget about the message because that's not important at this point. No matter what I do (I press CNTRL + S all day long before/after/during the message) I still cannot actually put a password on it...the prompts never comes up for me to actually put a password on the document
There is nothing random about saving it. Pressing it before will have no effect. Pressing it when you see the message will have no effect. Nor will anything have any effect until you close all the dialogs. Then you can save it.
But there is no prompt to add the password, you should already have typed it.
What should happen is this. Let's suppose you want a password to open the document.
1. File > Properties, Security Tab.
2. Change Security method to Password Security.
3. Check "Require a document to open the password".
4. Type the password you want for Document Open Password.
5. Click OK.
6. You should be prompted to repeat the password from step 4, do so.
7. I get the message you noted. Click OK.
8. The properties still show everything allowed, no problem just click OK.
9. Save the file.
10. Close the file.
11. Try to reopen the file. Get a prompt for password.
Ok, how far do you get with these steps.
