    Lightroom with 32 bit OS?

    Lynnskey Community Member

I cannot download the free trial of lightroom as I do not have a 64 bit operating system.

Is there a work around for this - an older version maybe? I am currenlty using Web Premium CS4.

Thank for any and all help.

You may find older versions on the net but they are not available from Adobe.

Which OS are you using??? And what computer??

You could certainly download Lightroom 4.4 and install it on WIndows Vista

              http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5567

However, after the 30-days, you'd have to be able to find a retailer (perhaps Amazon or B&H Camera) that still has Lightroom 4 in stock, as you cannot buy Lightroom 4 from Adobe.

Thank you for your much appreciate help! So, with this OS, I probably cannot subscribe to cloud by the December's end new pricing either correct?

Hmm - wonder if it would be worth it to subscribe even though I cannot use it and hope that eventually I can get a new PC.

I have been wanting to do that for a time now anyway, but I have had so little time to research what would be good for what I do (mostly use PS) and keep all my files on external hard drives. I don't need any extra bells or whistles and do not create video's. Any advice on this too perhaps?

I don't know, as I don't use "the cloud" -- and so please do not interpret my answer as either "yes" or "no" regarding the cloud.

This is very vague to me, I don't understand the question.

I think you missed my middle sentence: Hmm - wonder if it would be worth it to subscribe even though I cannot use it and hope that eventually I can get a new PC.

Lynnskey, just send me the money until you get a new computer!!

There is no point wasting money that can be put to good use toward a new PC, CC will still be available when you get your new PC or Mac.

LOL -  The only thing is - I want to upgrade Photo Shop and get Lightroom. Adobe offers  a $9.99 Cloud subscription ONLY if you have CS3 or higher and ONLY if you subscribe by 12-31-2013.  My 32 bit OS will let me do neither until I get a new PC!

Thank for all your time, I appreciate it!

You keep stating that your 32-bit OS is the problem. This is incorrect. Lightroom will run on the proper 32-bit Windows operating systems.

What prevents you from installing Lightroom 5 is WIndows Vista. You can, right now, download and install Lightroom 4 on your 32-bit Windows Vista operating system.

If the "cloud" includes Lightroom 4, then you are all set. I do not know if the Adobe offer of $9.99 cloud subscription includes Lightroom 4 or not. You can look this up.

Looking at the system requirements for Lightroom 5, it mentions 'Microsoft Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 or Windows 8. I canot see any mention of requiring 64 bit OS required?

Could it be that Vista is the problem? If so, upgrading to Windows 7 would be reasonably cheap & a big improvement over Vista.

I'm hoping 32 bit is OK as that's what my Windows 7 is & I want to take advantage of the offer too

Windows 7 (with service pack 1) 32-bit will run Lightroom 5.

Should work on W7 either 32 bit or 64 bit. Ironically the LR5 beta did run on Vista. Adobe have been rather premature in dropping support. Many users are still happy with XP. This is a sign of the future for the cloud and the difference with perpetual licenses. Don’t ever expect other than the last two Windows or Mac OSs to be supported going forward.

Yes Vista is the problem for LR 5+.

I am running LR 5.2RC on a 32-bit Windows 7 OS as we speak.

What is downloaded from Adobe.com website as the Try version of LR 5 has both a 32-bit and 64-bit installer, which is why it’s 800MB+, and the initial setup program installs whichever is appropriate.

The $9.99/month for PS-CC and LR starts with the introduction of LR 5.2, in the next few days, so until that happens it’s impossible to know how but the download will be, but in theory, the Creative Cloud app could be smart enough to download the version appropriate for the OS, either 32-bit or 64-bit.

It seems like a reasonable solution would be to upgrade your Vista to Windows 7 on the same hardware you’re already running on.  The Color-Management will be better, since Vista’s is crippled, and other things will likely run faster, as well.  Windows 8 is where the issues start happening since the UI is completely different, although LR 5 seemed to run on a 32-bit Windows 8 system when I tried that, too.

That’s probably good advice. You can get the most out of Photoshop CC and Lightroom on 64 bit systems.

Best to check with Adobe Lynnskey, after LR5.2 is released around 17th and make sure you qualify for the Photography Program. I don’t know much about Web Premium but as I understand it, CS suites don’t qualify; only stand alone versions of Photoshop or Photoshop Extended from CS3 through CS6. Or raise a question on the CC forum.
