Overridden master objects retain their linkage to the master page only for those attributes that are not altered after you override. If for example you override a text fame and change the text, you lose the coonection to the text on the master page, but moving the frame on the master page should result in the overridden frame also moving, as long as all you did was change the text.
Everything you say is true except for the pages that I had certain elements (like the month name text frame layer) were locked by accident on specif indivdual pages. When I moved that frame on the Master page, it moved all of the frames for pages that had updated text (months in chronoligical order every page) but werent locked. However, the ones that were locked on some pages didnt moved, even after I unlocked them. Seems like they should have moved after I unlocked them, but it didnt work.

Locking would have disconnected them from the positoning or resizing changes. Unlike BEFORE moving might have worked, but not after.
