1. Re: Quicktime export not available for Windows 8?
JSS1138 Sep 11, 2013 2:10 PM (in response to colormunch)You're honestly better off not using QT. Export with the appropriate H.264 preset. It'll come out as an MP4, which is pretty standard for this type of media.

Ann Bens Sep 11, 2013 2:18 PM (in response to colormunch)Wether or not you should export to QT or mov.
You might be missing some features and presets.

colormunch Sep 11, 2013 2:26 PM (in response to Ann Bens)I did see that link. When I make a new sequence I do have all those preset groups available. Also I have no problem viewing and editing the .mov clip in Premiere.

4. Re: Quicktime export not available for Windows 8?
Ann Bens Sep 11, 2013 2:31 PM (in response to colormunch)QT should read version 7.7.4.
CS6 all updated?
Is this the first time using Premiere and QT?
Did QT work in the past?

What is the basis and foundation of this comment ?
(apart from personal bias of course)
We have never had any issues in using QT in a cross platform, cross facilty workflow.
My peers and colleagues agree.
Thing is Jim..if one works within a cross platform, cross facilty workflow...one often runs into QT. eg Uncompressed .mov (8, 10, 16 bit) required. Not AVI or H264!.
They wont change setups based on Jim Simons humble opinion on all things Apple.

The gamma bug and it's 32 bit nature.

They're perfectly free to come to the exact same humble opinion, they don't have to use mine.

8. Re: Quicktime export not available for Windows 8?
colormunch Sep 11, 2013 5:18 PM (in response to Ann Bens)Yes it's QT 7.7.4 and the CS6 suite is totally updated.
I'm not very experienced with Premiere or video editing, and this is the first time I've ever tried to export a video from my setup.

The gamma "bug" is not really a "bug" - it's just that Apple chooses gamma and colorspace information from the MOV atoms instead of what's set in the video stream. Adobe and other encoders choose to set that information in the stream not in the MOV Atom. Thus it doesn't play back correctly. It's why x264pro has a "QuickTime Player Comptibility" button. Videos encoded to deal with the Apple "way" play back just fine.
Yes the 32bit thing is a little annoying as it could be faster but I don't think that is a deal breaker considering how many dozens if not hundreds of video formats are commonly containered in MOV.
As S'nz says uncompressed MOV is pretty darn standard.
