Windows 7 32 bit / Firefox  Fpl doesn't install - "insufficient rights"- tried several things invain

    Ton88ny

      I tried

installing flashplayer (many times) - no result - it downloads, but upon install it always says I have insufficient administrator rights - which should not be true! I am the only user and have full rights.

I have this problem for the past year and only with Flashplayer updates

i tried uninstalling the old flashplayer first

i tried making a new account with - again - all rights

      i tried disabling Avast antivirus

      disabling Threatfire

      disabling both

      unfortunately nothing works

      What am i missing

Who can give me some sound advice please.

      thanks!

      Ton

Can you post the contents of the FlashInstall.log file in C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash

Thank you for the log.  It seems that the error message you got is misleading; the installer actually had problems deleting some of the files from the install folder.

              Perform a clean install: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/928315

Make sure that all files in the install folder, and all other files mentioned in the instructions are deleted before you install again.

                Hi again Pat,

Done everything as you suggested and as was discribed in the clean install-procedure.  It still ends in the same way : Install is interrupted due to my alleged lack of administrator-rights.

The latest log in the new install folder is now this:  (Hope you - or anyone else - have additional suggestions),

                thanks in advance   greetings, Ton88ny

I had gone through the written procedure, but noticed today that the little intstruction movie contains two additional steps, of which the latter provides a 'hickup'.  It seems I am unable to remove one of the folders in "%appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player", namely the one called "macromedia.com".  First it asks to provide administrator rights, and when I click proceed, it says I am not authorised to do this, and I should be given permission by [the account name that I am logged in with] to change anything in this folder. (??)

The "macromedia.com" folder contains another folder "support", which contains "flashplayer", then "sys" which contains 118 folders named after all kinds of websites that were visited in the past 4 years.

Should I - and is there a way to -  get this permission? please advise me how to

                    thanks again

So frustrating, I have, and have had, the exact situation, and tried the exact sequence of attempts to fix.  Unfortunately, I cannot recall how I "recovered" from this last time.  I KNEW I shouldn't have let it upgrade.  I can't see how this could be labeled anything but "A Known Issue", for years.  Yell at your bosses!

Sorry, I reply to Ton88ny and end up ranting at the techs.

                      I'll await their reply.

I agree, Libertyczar, that this is an issue that seems to be not at all seldom, when I look around on diverse fora. Personally I have been dealing with it for over a year now and not being able to come up with any definitive answer. Due to the fact that Flashplayer has come to play a keyrole in many movieclips, games and other audiovisual content, this is quite annoying indeed.  I do hope someone can be of help in solving it. Let's wait and see

I am sorry, but this is not Adobe's or Flash Player's fault; it is a permission problem on your computer.  I do not know how these permission can become corrupted, but that is something that has been happening on Windows since its very outset.

You will need to fix your permissions on these folders.

I was blaming neither "Adobe" nor "Flash Player", but merely stating the frequency of it's occurence and the effect it unfortunately has on many audiovisual issues. I must say hwoever, from my point of view it is fair to say that I find it peculiar that the authorisation issue only occurs - and keeps occurring - when I update FlashPlayer, and not with any other updates I am performing on a regular basis with other software.

I will end this thread though and look elsewhere for an answer how to fix this folder-permission issue.  Pat, thanks for your attempts to help me.

the authorisation issue only occurs - and keeps occurring - when I update FlashPlayer

It is possible that it is because Flash Player is entitely installed on the Windows system folders, not in Program Files, as most other software is.

Also, this particular issue does not occur as often as you believe; I see it here at the forum about once or twice a month.

Anyway, good luck with your permission issues.
