As configured, the XPS is much better.
The GeForce GTX 660 blows away the Quadro 600. The Quadro series, being more "pro" or better specced, is false marketing.
For either system, I suggest at least two drives: one for your OS/system, the other for your footage. (Check out Harm's guide here.) If your budget allows, using a SSD for your system drive would be beneficial (not sure the 32GB in the XPS would be large enough).
Also, the more RAM the better. The 16GB in the XPS should be sufficient...but I personally have 32GB and sometimes it's not enough.
Just curious...what format are you primarily shooting in? AVCHD, P2, etc?
The XPS 8700 looks okay, Keep in mind you'll want lots of dedicated storage, apart from your system drive. Go with GTX over Quadro.
T3600 ? Nope. 4gb ram? HD 250GB? Quadro 600 1GB? GTFO...... not enough muscle at all.
You might look at getting a custom rig built. Big gaming builds are cheaper than business class builds from dell & hp. The case are made for air flow, and you choose components ala carte.
Hi friends, thank you very much. So, looks I was not so bad when tending to choose the XPS.
Joe, thank you for showing the forum about Hardware. I´ve just moved this discussion to this forum.
Josh, did not understand about your comment: not sure the 32GB in the XPS would be large enough...
Is it anything I can configurate or change? And I record using AVCHD
I actually have a computer with 2 HDs with 500GB. Perhaps, when the new computer arrives I can add these HDs too.
The XPS comes with a 32GB SSD drive. Or it might be a single hybrid drive, with the 2TB and 32GB in a single drive.
If you want to use a SSD as your system drive, I'd recommend at minimum a 64GB one. 32GB probably won't be large enough for that (Windows + Adobe suite + whatever other programs you install).
Thank you Josh
I called Dell and they told me this specific configuration is the maximum supplied by Dell at the momment. so I could not direct ask them to change the SSD from 32 to 64GB.
Anyway, I´ll choose the XPS instead that Precision workstatuon.
Thank you very much for the help.
Hope to be making a good choice for my new work computer
