This is by design. I find it a useful change. Most times I want to move a group of clips, I want to move them on all tracks anyway. This eliminates the modifier key for most move operations.
Hi Jim, thank you for the reply. I work on projects where I have to synch action to spoken text, which makes the change less useful to me. Anyway I have to change my habbits I guess. What made me thoughtful is the info given in the latest Manual (http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/premiere_pro_reference.pdf) on page 37
"Pressing Shift changes the Track Selection Tool
into the Multi-track Selection Tool."
So I thought there might be a way to get back the CS6 style.

Yeah, this is less helpful for me than the single track select too.
Would be good to be able to modify the default via an obscure menu or something.
You can modify it by holding down SHIFT, which changes to the single track select.
