Ideally, you should have the same version of Adobe Audition installed on the computer. Also please check if you are getting the option to edit the clip in Audition when you right click on the clip in project panel. Also open the sequence & go to edit<edit in Adobe Audition & check if the options are available.
Please give us some more information.

I checked all the things you suggested, and all of them are greyed out, except when going to the Edit menu, there is an option to edit the Squence in Audition...not the Clip.
Windows 7 Ultimate sp1
Adobe CC Suite all up to date.
1TB HDD x5
Everything seemed to work fine in CS6, haven't installed any new software/plugins etc.
For some reason it's not showing up on the forum, but someone named Ann Bens gave me the solution:
"Look for the default .sesx files in your Document/Adobe/Audition/6.0/Session Templates folder (on Windows 7)
There should be a list of preset .sesx files. Right-click one and set its default application as Adobe Audition by using the "open with" option."
Totally worked, thanks!
Worked for me! CS6 on Windows 7
