    Safe Areas

    shooternz Level 6

I have no idea why Adobe Premiere CC  designers suddenly decided to add additional area markers into the Program and Source Monitors.

Assumeably they are SD (4:3) ..but at very least..they are confusing and cluttering?

I never saw any discussion about it in this forum so I imagine there was no 'Feature Requests' for it.

Seems totally arbitrary and illogical to have added them especially considering they are not same in the Titler window Safe Areas

What place do they have in a world  evolving to 16:9 everything.

A setting option to display them...I would understand.

Can we get this changed please Adobe?

While you are at it...how about it being a Global Setting (Preference) instead of a Project Setting.

Setting it the same for every project when settin up ...is simply time wasting and inefficient.

ie. who even needs to change it from the standards they work with !

          First...

I have no intention of diminishing what is a valid feature request, but.

What I do instead of creating a brand new,

ground-up Project for each new job:

I keep a 'Premiere Project' template folder.

This contains a folder / sub-folder structure that is consistent

for all of my Projects, and contains the elements such as slates,

hour log templates, invoice templates etc. that are always required

for every new job I undertake.

This Project template folder also contains a 'template Project'

that is pre-configured and organized with bins, preset Sequences

in different formats: SD / HD / 29.97 / 23.976 / in layouts for different

delivery methods with blank slates in place, etc.

This template Project's "Project Settings" are also

configured with all of my favored Project menu preferences.

This makes creating a new Project for a new job as simple as

duplicating the 'Premiere Project' template folder with all of its

sub-folders and associated elements (including the 'template Project'),

then re-naming the root folder and the Project itself.

This also keeps the organization of every Project identical.

              It's quick and efficient.

You only have to set up a 'template Project' once.

Hey!!! (I hate to say this but...) Be nice to Joe.

I do the same thing. Always have since way back in the Premiere days.

My standard six bins, the "SLG Productions" logo, my theme music, a few clips with my favorite effects applied so I can copy and paste the collections of attributes easier, etc. The number of tracks I like to use, all of it.

All saved on an external drive, a thumb drive, and on my "Source Media" drive. Can't hurt to have extra backups.

That is for my corporate work. I am a little sloppier with my personal stuff.

shooternz should mark my reply as 'Correct'...

then he can confound me at a later date by unmarking.

I used to do  something  similar but in fact for shortform work..TVCs .. it takes no time to establish primary bins and initial sequences.

I never recycle assets in this type of work obviously (ie same asset across clients!).

Premiere has made things a lot easier to re format and reversion from initial sequence anyway.

Only thing is these cursed Safe Area Markers that I alweays forget until I strt graphics and supers!

Cant be bothered going down the FR route of "dissapointment and heart break".

One day I would like some Adobe person just to pop in and say "hi and why" about something like this.

We've added a preference in the upcoming October release to turn off 4:3 safe margins:

                              Thank you.

                                Or... fabulously serious.

Well, how about that! I am reasonably good at ignoring them, but I should not have to.

I guess the October release should be pretty interesting.

                                    BTW Joe

The project templates would not have solved this particular issue in regard to Safe Areas and the 4:3 markings.

Anyway..this has to be the fastest fix ever.

I moaned at 10:59 am ....and Steve had it sorted by 12:57.

Considering I am 12 hours ahead of you ...this is back to the future for real.
